Curriculum Statement

Teaching & Learning Statement

Our vision is “to establish a learning culture that enables all pupils to achieve their potential”.

Teaching and learning are at the heart of everything that we strive to achieve at St. Peter’s Independent School. In order for our pupils to make the best progress, teaching needs to be of a consistently high quality so that pupils can learn most effectively.

Our aim is:

  • To ensure that, as pupils leave the school, they have the desire and ability to continue to learn independently and with others.
  • To equip every pupil with the skills necessary to positively influence their own life and make a positive contribution to society.
  • To ensure that all pupils enjoy learning and achieve well as a result of well planned, challenging and stimulating teaching.

Our assessment is aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching and learning. Assessment is pupil centered – with independent learning being encouraged and pupils trained to assess their own progress. Assessment information should be used to plan the next steps in learning and should inform pupils of their current levels and what they need to do to progress towards the next level.

In the Senior School subject specialist teachers display an assessment and tracking system to aid pupil progress.

Each pupil is understands their current Working At Grade (WAG)

Notes guide individual pupils on how to achieve their next Target Grade (TG)

By the end of the school year we aim for all pupils to have achieved or exceeded their Predicted End Grade (PEG)

All pupils aim for a minimum progress of two sub-levels during a school year.

A traffic light system helps pupils identify their current status

Red        2 sub-levels of progress needed to achieve the Predicted End Grade

Orange   1 sub-level of progress needed to achieve the Predicted End Grade

Green     Predicted End Grade achieved (or exceeded). Congratulations you have gone green!
