Headmaster's Welcome

Thank you for your initial interest in St. Peter’s School. On behalf of the school community it is my pleasure to tell you a little about the school. All involved in the St. Peter’s School community would testify that this is a unique place of learning and it may be the special place that is right for your child’s education.

The small size of St. Peter’s is one of the School’s strengths and we can genuinely focus on each individual pupil, as well as offering a wide range of opportunities. Small class sizes can and do matter, they encourage all pupils to achieve their own potential through more personalised teaching. Pupils in St. Peter’s thrive in class sizes averaging 12 students per class. However good teaching depends on the teacher as much as the class size; inspirational, dedicated and enthusiastic teachers work in an environment which unashamedly focuses on teaching and learning, where expectations  are high, opportunities for learning abound, there are fewer curriculum boundaries and many extra-curricular activities.

Our community atmosphere is one in which all pupils are happy, secure, confident and valued; each pupil recognised for who they are, not just what they can do. The strengths of the individual are appreciated and nurtured, creating students with self-esteem and confidence. Discipline is strong. The qualities of behaviour, respect, endeavour and achievement are not ‘old fashioned’, just understood to be right. As a result academic expectations are high with corresponding examination results.

The balance between the academic, pastoral and extra-curricular is important. All pupils are expected to work hard to achieve their academic potential within classroom environments that provide both appropriate challenge and support.

St. Peter’ provides an atmosphere which fosters the development in each pupil of spiritual and moral values, self-discipline, responsibility, and respect for others and the environment; we offer an education that is not limited only to the classroom but delivered through a wide range of enriching extra-curricular activities.

The provision of independent education need not be a luxury, for our school serves a great social mix of families, of diverse traditions and faith; all of whom are looking for the best education for their children.

St. Peter’s is a community of supportive families, with the emphasis on the relationship between pupils and teachers our children want to learn and achieve.

Our Prospectus and website provides information on all aspects of school life but the only way to appreciate fully what St. Peter’s has to offer is for you to visit us. I would be delighted to meet you and arrange to show you around our school.

You and your children will be guaranteed a very warm welcome.
Yours sincerely

Tim Cooper
